What is the Pulse at Your Organization?
To gain insights into the thinking process of the CEO, “What keeps you up at night?” was a common question consultants would ask industry leaders. In light of the ever changing economic and political situation, it is now more important than ever to determine what’s on the mind of your employees.
Senior Management is frequently surveyed on key issues facing employers and in fact, the following were identified as key concerns:
- Offering employees flexibility with work and personal lives
- Expanding benefit programs
- Changing business landscape post presidential election
- Obtaining Capital
- Reputation Management – responding to social media comments
- Finding and retaining employees
- Protecting the company, employees and customers against data breaches and hackers
- Managing growth expectations and developing realistic business strategy
A key lesson the recent election has taught us is don’t assume you know what your employees are concerned about or worried about if you don’t ask the question. Unfortunately, far too many organizations decide not to ask the question or assume that they already know the answers.
Both approaches don’t fix the underlying issues. Yet, far too many employers assume that problems or issues will resolve themselves by electing to do nothing. Yeah, right!!
How to Take the Pulse
The most effective process to gauge the pulse or climate of your organization is through an anonymous employee survey or confidential feedback process.
A comprehensive survey process allows you to collect critical information and employee perceptions on workplace issues and company policies that they normally would not bring up in department or small group meetings.
Results from the employee survey allow you to develop a strategic plan towards improving employee productivity, satisfaction and engagement.
As you head into 2017, make it a new year’s resolution to better understand what’s keeping your employees up at night and take action to address major concerns. Treyburn HR Group would be happy to discuss a survey strategy with you.
